The Journey

Comic Concert for Anyone Over 10 Years Old

Premiere on 15 January 2023 as part of the Dazz Jazz Festival at Centralstation in Darmstadt

Comics? – but they’re for children! There are graphic novels for adults, of course. But graphic literature that everyone can enjoy?

The Berlin-based Israeli composer and pianist Itay Dvori has created a new format: the comics concert. He sets graphic works by renowned artists from all over the world to live music, and over the past few years these have been attracting a lot of attention at international festivals and on stages throughout Europe. The musician’s aim is to show that comics are relevant and socially critical. Sometimes light-hearted, sometimes serious, they often pick up on current issues, from the environment through to migration – topics that interest both adults and older children (from around 10 years old).

With his comics concert ‘The Expedition’ (named after the comic by Bachwald, the comic duo Julian Fiebach and Benjamin Gottwald), Itay Dvori presents a colourful and multifaceted mixture of comic works by international illustrators for young and old. Entertaining, and at the same time thought-provoking, the evening moves between pictorial worlds full of humour, adventure, fantasy and poetry.
